Garibaldi bracelet

Bracelets are equally popular and trendy pieces of jewellery for ladies and Men and can be worn for many occasions. This form of jewellery has been around for a very long time and even our ancestors appreciated it when they could show off their arms. We offer a wide variety of bracelets in our shop. One of the variations is the Garibaldian necklace.

The history of the bracelet in particular and of jewellery in general

If you look up the history of jewellery, you can see them on rock paintings from early human history: Bracelets were already a highly sought-after form of jewellery thousands of years ago. With the discovery of the first gold deposits, people began to ask themselves how this preciously shining metal could be processed into body jewellery. The original pieces of jewellery in this episode were rather large, because the goldsmith's craft did not exist at that time and nobody knew how to make jewellery in a form that was easy to wear. Necklaces, rings and bracelets were also very heavy due to the high weight of the gold, which meant that especially for the bracelets they had to be worn on the upper arm, because it would not have been possible to wear them on the wrist. Another circumstance is that gold was sinfully expensive at that time, which meant that in the antiquity it was exclusively the rulers who could afford the gold. They took advantage of this fact to manifest their claim to power to the people and to demand ever new taxes from the people. It was not until the beginning of the Middle Ages that there was movement into jewellery processing on the one hand and the exclusive claim to gold jewellery by the rulers on the other.

The Middle Ages saw the emergence of the first guilds in Europe, which meant the amalgamation of various crafts. At the same time, many new crafts were created, including the goldsmith. From that time on, there was one craftsman who was exclusively concerned with making jewellery from gold. As a result, gold jewellery became considerably smaller and thus more wearable and also more affordable. The increasing prosperity of craftsmen and tradesmen from the Middle Ages onwards meant that they were also able to afford one or the other type of jewellery. Thus, the supremacy of the ruling class was history in terms of jewellery. A few centuries later, the baroque period brought with it a true heyday in jewellery production. In Europe, noble and princely houses almost competed with each other to see who owned and wore the most beautiful and striking jewellery. The winners of this competition were the goldsmiths for many years, who had full order books and could hardly escape from orders. From a purely creative point of view, the necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets, which were created in the baroque era, were true works of art. With their filigree design, decorated with rubies and precious stones, emeralds and other stones, these pieces of jewellery became unique testimonies to the craftsmanship of the goldsmiths of the time. At the same time, new forms of jewellery were created, as jewellers were very creative and inventive. So they developed different chain forms, of which the Garibaldic chain is a variant of the chains, which has survived the time until today and is still used in the jewellery production. The Garibaldian chain is also known as French chain, whereby it uses twisted chain links with so-called peas. In detail, this means that a certain number of chain links are hung together and then soldered together with a pea. The Garibaldi chain was named after the Italian Guiseppe Garibaldi, who is considered the inventor of the chain. A short time after its invention, the necklace in the Garibaldi pattern became the Garibaldibracelet, which is still worn today by ladies and gentlemen alike because of its interesting shape.

The Garibaldi bracelet as a gift

Not only since today a Garibaldi bracelet is a popular gift for young and old. Bracelets, chains, rings and earrings were already a perfect gift idea thousands of years ago when it came to giving special pleasure to loved ones. In ancient times, men spoiled their wives with gold jewellery and even children already wore noble chains and rings, although, as mentioned, they were still quite large and heavy at that time. The tradition of giving jewellery as a present remained in the following centuries rather limited to special occasions and close persons. Jewellery was given as a priority for the engagement or for weddings, or it was given to the child of close relatives or friends on the occasion of birth or baptism. In many parts of Europe, this custom of passing on jewellery only on very special occasions has been preserved to this day, which is why if you wish to pass on gold jewellery as a gift, such as a Garibaldi bracelet, you should first check carefully whether the occasion is really suitable. The jewellery itself is best placed in a fine jewellery box, which can be lined with velvet or silk. After closing the box, it should be decorated with a small bow. A Garibaldi bracelet can also be given to a close person at Christmas, when moving into a new apartment or on the occasion of a passed exam.

How the Garibaldi bracelet should be cleaned and stored

Jewellery has the habit of being worn directly on the skin. In addition to dust and dirt, sweat can therefore seriously damage gold jewellery over time. If you attach great importance to ensuring that your gold jewellery looks like new for many years, you should clean it thoroughly at regular intervals. If this care is to be carried out by a professional, it is advisable to commission a jeweller to clean the Garibaldi bracelet. On the other hand, if you think you can do it yourself, you can get one of the gold cleaning cloths available in stores. Proceed as follows to care for your gold jewellery: Take the cloth out of its packaging and place it on the table in front of you, unfolding it completely. Then take the bracelet out of the box and place it on the cloth while it is open. Now fold the sides of the cloth together and enclose the bracelet. Now start rubbing the jewellery with the cloth for a few minutes. After a short while open the cleaning cloth and remove the chain for the arm. You will now see them in a clean and tidy condition, while the cloth shows some traces of dust and dirt. This procedure can be done by you again and again, so that the small arm chain will keep its new appearance for many years. Only the cleaning cloth should be replaced with a new one at regular intervals.
